Cape Fear (1991)

As great a cast and director (including cameos for many of the original cast members) as one could hope for on a pulp remake, but a lesson of less is more. The previous version was lower key and Mitchum's villain more down to earth than DeNiro's over the top horror movie creation, and sustain their appeal more strongly than this proficient effort has, despite some impressive performances (including Juliette Lewis, who gained a large share of the acclaim.)
