Shutter Island (2010)

Film fans were outraged when Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel was unceremoniously pushed to February a few weeks shy of planned October 2 release; previews had built audience interest in what was shaping up to be a thin fall for releases with some meat on them. Subsequent previews have continued to build buzz but troublingly seem to be sneaking CGI in where it's doubtful to be needed. Even if it's one of the director's occasional underwhelmers, the superb cast and interesting setting are sure to compel.
