High critical hopes were partially realized for Steven Soderbergh adaptation of Stanislaw Lem novel, done before to great acclaim by Andrei Tarkovsky; most dramatically challenging part to date for Clooney. While not a certain crowd pleaser by any means, it was strange that after a sci-fi flavored teaser trailer, the marketing switched, determined to hide the fact that this is science fiction, relying on TV and in print ads on the lost love theme that risked disappointing misled audiences. As it was, gone from theatres during high profile Thanksgiving break alarmingly fast.
