The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976)

Ben Johnson, Andrew Prine, Dawn Wells

Director Charles B. Pierce made a number of films (mainly Westerns, rural adventures and the G-rated Bigfoot docu-thriller The Legend Of Boggy Creek) in the 70s, mainly aimed at the family audience, that brought big returns in the south and beyond on their small budgets.  This R-rated thriller was a departure, based on a true story of 1940's murder in his home area of Texarkana.  The effective, low budget capture of rural atmosphere served the movie very well, as did Johnson's presence.
